The calm before the storm of tomorrow’s high mountain stage? Perhaps. But the GC contenders have to stay alert, stay safe and stay together as the difference between second and fourth place is still super slim.
Friday 12 September: Stage 19, Salvaterra do Mino to Cangas do Morrazo, 180.5km, medium mountains
This stage has two cat 1 climbs, the first about midway through the stage, the second just 19km from the finish. Compared to what the GC has already encountered, this final climb won’t be too taxing – the average gradient is 7.5% – and in anticipation for tomorrow’s stage, chances are a finely crafted breakaway will be allowed to stay away. Might be a day for Adam Hansen to pick up a Lotto-Belisol victory.
