The climb of Valdepenas de Jaen may be a short one at just 1km, but the pain it causes is plain for all to see on the faces of FDJ’s Thibaut Pinot and Cofidis’ Yoann Bagot. Both finished around a minute down on stage winner Dani Moreno.
Stage 9: Antequera to Valdepenas de Jaen, 163.7km
Already the wearer of the green points jersey, Daniel Moreno almost seemed to defy gravity, taking flight up the close-to-30% wall in Valdepenas de Jaen to take the red leader’s jersey from Nicolas Roche by just one second.
