Vuelta stage 6: The Panzerwagen stalls on the line
Stage 6: Guijuelo to Caceres, 175km
Saxo Bank’s Michael Morkov sprung a surprise to take the biggest win of his career, though his achievement was overshadowed by the superhuman efforts of Tony ‘Panzerwagen’ Martin (Omega Pharma-Quick Step). At first glance this looks like a straightforward sprinters’ day. However, this is the Vuelta and while the run-in to the finish is hardly a climb, it is sufficiently uphill to favour the strong-men over the pure sprinters. We will probably still see a bunch sprint, but there’s just enough vertical gain to give late attackers a chance too.
