Stage 11: Avranches to Mont-Saint-Michel, 33km individual time trial
Another spectacular setting – the gorgeous Mont Saint Michel – will see the finish line for the first individual time trial of this Tour. One for the specialists, the time gaps could be telling down the road.
The course starts off at a rolling gait with some fast descents and a tight corner or two, while the last 11km are on the open, gentle downhill. However, as they are on the coast, the wind could kick up and if it changes significantly during the day, we may get a surprise or two. (Just think of how the wind determined the outcome of the TT in this year’s Tour de Suisse.) Current time trial world champion Tony Martin will start as favourite for the stage, with Chris Froome eyeing additional gains ahead of the gruelling last week of Alpine stages.
Bit of trivia: Mont Saint Michel is the second most popular tourist attraction in France. Only the Eiffel Tower is more popular.
