Stage 9: San Sepolcro to Firenze, 170km, medium mountains

This is the last stage before the first rest day and, just as importantly, the day after the punishing time trial. The GC riders gave everything yesterday and will probably be happy for a small breakaway to duke it out for the stage win in Florence.

There are four categorised climbs: the Passo della Consuma is a cat 2 and the Vallombrosa is the first cat 1 of the Giro, which comes about 106km into the stage. It finishes up with a cat 3 and cat 4 before the descent into. Also, keep an eye on the last 20km or so as this forms part of the World Championship road race parcours later this year.
