For those who always assume that I hate everyone on Team Sky, I don’t. I like Geraint Thomas – he’s even one of my riders to watch. Bernie Eisel – ladies’ favourite – certainly gets my wheels turning. And I really like Chris Froome. Because he’s a talented, gutsy, humble rider. And it’s his 27th birthday today!
His moment in the (Spanish) sun came last year at the Vuelta. Team Sky’s strongest man on that tour, Chris was eventually released from riding for a spent Bradley Wiggins and took on red jersey Juan Jose Cobo and almost did it. (In fact, if the Vuelta didn’t award time bonuses, Froome would have become Britain’s first Grand Tour champion.)
Froome’s fabulous finish
This is Stage 17 of the 2011 Vuelta … Chris wins the stage with Cobo in hot pursuit.
“If you win, we kill you”
An interview with Chris talks about the reaction of the Spanish crowd when he attacked on stage 17. Taking it all in his stride.
“Where did this guy come from?”
Part 2 of this interview, Chris talks about his health, his training and preparation and how he feelings about riding clean.
“I’m not getting €1.2million euros”
Part 3: Chris talks about his riding with Wiggins, his renewed contract with Team Sky and how much money he isn’t making …
So happy birthday, Chris Froome. I’ll be looking forward to seeing you racing hard this summer.
